Match Safety Sir Walter Gun Club is a Cold Range. Guns are to be loaded only on the firing line under the direct supervision of a Range Officer. Guns are to be unloaded and holstered, or bagged, when off the line, unless in a Safety Area. All Safety Areas are clearly signed. See the Range map for Safety Area locations. Your car IS NOT a Safety Area. Bagging and unbagging your gun is to be done only in a designated Safety Area. Shooters must come to the line with the gun holstered and prepared to shoot. Gun handling at your car is prohibited and will result in a 10.5.1 Match DQ. Range Officers and designated Club Staff officials are here to assist you in having a safe and enjoyable shooting experience. If your gun handling is becoming unsafe, they will attempt to warn you. If your gun handling has become unsafe, they will take immediate corrective action, even if no warning has been given. If you hear "STOP" or "FREEZE", immediately stop in place with your muzzle safely pointed downrange, safety engaged and your finger out of the trigger guard, and await further instructions. For safety in shooting steel targets, ammunition is restricted to a maximum velocity of 1600 fps. Ammunition found to be in excess of 1600 fps must be withdrawn from the match, per rule 5.5.6. Alcohol and recreational drugs are prohibited on the Sir Walter Gun Club range. Competitors violating this policy anywhere on the range will be DQ’d from the match and will be asked to leave the range. Rule 10.7.3 will apply. Do not climb on berms or cross any safety line. Children and pets should be controlled at all times for their personal safety. All competitors must wear eye and hearing protection while on the line. Eye protection is required to be worn by everyone while on the range. Spectators are strongly encouraged to wear hearing protection while observing the shooting.
Club Facilities
Restrooms Food Service : The Concession Stand will be open and serving snacks and beverages during the match. Coffee and breakfast items will be available each morning.Parking : Parking is allowed in designated areas only. Do not park on any of the range roads or in designated No Parking areas. Only Match Officials’ vehicles are allowed on the ranges. Gun handling in the parking areas will result in a 10.5.1 Match DQ.Directions : The Sir Walter Gun Club's range facilities are located at 2507 Hester Road (SR 1129) which is north of Creedmoor, North Carolina. A MAP is available in addition to these directions. From Raleigh, proceed north on NC 50 to Creedmoor, then through Creedmoor to U.S. 15. Proceed north on U.S. 15 for approximately 3 miles to the crossroads of Hester; turn right on Hester Road and go 0.6 miles. The entrance to the Club is on the left.From Interstate I-85 South, exit at the Creedmoor Exit # 191 (NC Highway 56). Drive east into Creedmoor till you get to the traffic light. The Ford dealer will be on your left. Turn left at the light (US Highway 15) and follow it north towards Oxford, NC. Approximately 2.5 miles north of Creedmoor, turn right onto Hester Road (SR 1129). The range is on your left about 0.6 miles down Hester Road. From Interstate I-85 North, exit at Exit # 202 (US Highway 15). Drive south on US 15 about 8 miles and turn left onto Hester Road (SR 1129). The range is on your left about 0.6 miles down Hester Road. Procedures and Protocol Sanctioning : The match has been approved by USPSA as a Sanctioned Level III,. The match will be scored with all six Divisions (including Single Stack) separated. Scores will be posted on this web site at the conclusion of the match.Rules : The North Carolina Section Championship match will be administered under the IPSC Handgun Competition Rules, USPSA Edition, January 2004. Copies in a PDF format are available on the match web site. Printed copies will be in the Stats Office during the Match.Match officials may randomly select shooters for holster retention tests, handgun safety tests and magazine length testing at any time during the match in accordance with the provisions of the IPSC Handgun Competition Rules. Violations of rules 10.3, 10.4, 10.5 or 10.9 anywhere on the Sir Walter Gun Club property will result in Match disqualification. Dress Code Classification : All competitors must be a member of USPSA. Your most current USPSA class will be used. If you lack a current USPSA class card or are not listed in the USPSA Classification Book, you will shoot as Unclassified. Shooter classifications will be verified with USPSA Headquarters on September 22, 2007. Please check the Shooter List for the most recent information. Shooters who register in person at the match must present a current USPSA classification card.Course Inspection : Courses are open for inspection only if no squad is shooting or preparing to shoot. The schedule is tight so please be patient and cooperative. You may negotiate obstacles only during the squad walk-through. You may negotiate obstacles only during the squad walk-through. The on deck shooter, and only the on deck shooter, may do this during scoring and taping.Brass Pickup : In order to keep the match on schedule, the RO staff will pick up all brass at the end of each half-day shooting schedule. Brass will be distributed between the range staff. Shooters are strongly encouraged to pick up any live rounds.Chronographing : Competitors will report to the Chronograph area immediately following completion of Stage 9. Six rounds of ammunition will be pulled by a match official. The chronograph procedure will follow the guidelines of rule §US 5.6.3. At the chronograph station, do not handle your gun till instructed to do so by the Range Officer. You will be directed to place your unloaded gun on the shooting bench with the muzzle pointing downrange. No one other than the competitor whose ammunition is being tested is permitted at the chronograph table.If you are randomly selected to be re-tested, you must report to the Chronograph stage that same day. Ammunition must make the declared power factor at all times during the match. If you fail to report to the Chronograph for the scheduled test or after a random sampling, your scores will be recorded as scoring minor. Squadding : This match will utilize the USPSA on-line self-squadding system. Once the Stats Officer enters your match registration, you will be sent a confirmation e-mail and you can go to the USPSA site to squad yourself. Shooters who do not squad themselves will be squadded by the Stats Officer based on your shooting time slot preference. Shooters who wish to be squadded together MUST send their registrations in together. Squad size cannot exceed seven (7). Shooters can go to the USPSA Squadding Page to self-squad themselves.You are squadded through all 9 stages and the Chronograph. At each stage the CRO will call roll and the walk-through will begin as scheduled. If you are not present for the walk-through, you must obtain written permission of the Range Master or Match Director to shoot the stage (Rule 6.6.1). Faliure to obtain written permission or failure to complete the stage in the scheduled time period will result in a stage score of ZERO. Squads 1, 11, 21 and 31 will start on Stage 1 and move to Stage 2, then 3, etc., finishing on Stage 8. Squads 2, 12, 22 and 32 will start on Stage 2 and so on. You probably get the idea by now! Match officials with yellow ID badges may shoot through at any time. A Squad List and a Shooter List will be available once shooters start registering. Changes to Stages : Information in this booklet is as correct as is possible; however, owing to safety considerations, changes may be made to any stage(s). Additional no-shoots may be added or other physical additions and/or changes may be made that are not shown in the Match Booklet. You are responsible for understanding the conditions and requirements of each stage. Inspect each stage carefully and ask about any changes during the walk-through. Drawings and dimensions shown in this booklet are approximate and may change due to production or safety considerations.Impenetrable : All vision barriers, barricades and walls (unless specifically designated as soft cover), targets, no-shoots and hard cover are deemed impenetrable to a full diameter bullet diameter. All walls are deemed to extend to the ground. Shots under such walls will incur procedurals and can result in a Match DQ (unsafe muzzle direction and/or bullet leaving the range). Deliberately shooting through walls, barricades or other props may result in a 10.6 Match DQ.Targets : Hard cover is delineated by tape, which does not score (Rule 9.6.1). Shoot poppers are painted a distinctive color. No-shoot poppers are painted white. Failure to engage any target other than disappearing targets will result in one procedural per skipped target (Rule 9.5.6).Fault Lines : No part of your body (or clothing covering same) may touch the ground on the other side of any fault line while firing a shot(s). We will assume that advantage has been gained in the case of any fault (Rules 11.06 & 10.2.1) unless stated otherwise in the stage briefing.Popper Calibration : If you feel a popper is off calibration, challenge it DURING SCORING. It will be checked per Rule 9.6.4 and C1 and you will be granted a re-shoot if the calibration is off. Your score will stand as shot if the calibration is correct. Complaints will not be entertained if you do not challenge the calibration during scoring. Poppers are calibrated on each stage with standard 9mm factory loads fired from a standard factory firearm. The factory ammunition fired from the test firearm is deemed definitive for any challenged steel targets. The test firearm and ammunition will be supplied only by a Match Official.Match Scoring : If you have a question regarding your posted score, recheck your score sheet and your math. If you still think there is a problem, contact the Chief Stats Officer. We will, of course, do everything humanly possible to avoid errors, but YOU are ultimately responsible for the accuracy of this information. We post it so you can check it – make a point to do so. Pointing out a clerical error at the award ceremony will earn you a heartfelt, "Sorry," and not much else.Scoring Disputes : Keep pace with the CRO on each stage as he or she scores and voice any scoring challenges before the target is taped so the matter can be resolved under 9.6. Scoring challenges will not be entertained after a target is taped, nor re-shoots granted. If you wish to protest the application of penalties or some other aspect of the stage, do not sign your score sheet. Notify the CRO of the problem and file a protest under Rule 13.06 within one hour. Make a written statement on the back of the score sheet. Per Rule 9.7.4, the score sheet will be processed and will be changed only upon a successful protest.Arbitration Requests : The cash fee is $70 US. Ask the CRO for an Arbitration Request Form and ask his or her assistance in retaining evidence. Complete and return the form within one hour of the time noted on the score sheet, together with the arbitration fee, to the Range Master, the Match Director or the Chief Stats Officer. Read and understand Sect. 13 before filing.Preparation : Come to the line prepared to shoot. Bagging and unbagging handguns is permitted only at designated Safety Areas. Shooters are expected to come to the line with their gun holstered and all ammunition in place when it is your time to shoot (Match officials excepted).Rain Covers : IPSC targets will be covered with transparent plastic if there is rain only by order of the Range Master, the Match Director or the Chief Stats Officer. The plastic covers will be removed when the rain stops only by order of the Range Master, the Match Director or the Chief Stats Officer. DO NOT remove rain covers unless and until so directed by the Range Master, the Match Director or the Chief Stats Officer.REMINDER! GUN HANDLING AT YOUR CAR IS PROHIBITED , and will incur a 10.5.1 Match DQ. Please use the designated Safety Areas for any gun handling, including the bagging and unbagging of guns. |
